SMMT has launched its new NMCL website. Work on the NMCL concept has been underway for over a year and has involved SMMT working closely with ADS (the trade body for aerospace, defence, security and space), LEPs, industry primes and OEMs. The recent addition of the rail sector to NMCL has created a broad coalition across advanced manufacturing.
The new site www.nmcl.co.uk, shows how the ‘Competitiveness Approach’ provides a way of comparing the competitiveness of companies regardless of shape, size or manufacturing sector.
Dr Chris Owen, Chief Executive of SMMT Industry Forum who led the NMCL Team said: “I am delighted that NMCL has reached this important milestone. The NMCL framework operates on the premise that the growth of manufacturing supply chain companies is underpinned by competitive performance. ‘Growth through competitiveness’ is our unofficial motto and throughout the last year we have been developing a way to help manufacturers understand their performance and capabilities so that they can grow, win more orders and ultimately export. The support we have received from our partners in industry, academia, the LEPs and devolved assemblies has been very heartening. I have no doubt that together we can make a real difference to advanced manufacturing in the UK.”
NMCL provides a single cross-sector, quality assured approach to measuring and improving the competitiveness of manufacturing supply chain companies. Using a range of tools and techniques it is able to support investment decisions whether publicly or privately funded and where necessary can adapt to changing funding initiatives.
NMCL is a national framework and its sole purpose is to provide a consistent, best practice approach to measuring and developing the capabilities of manufacturing supply chain companies, boosting their competitive performance and underpinning growth and export.
